History
In the 1950s, Jeep mainly refers to those American military
Jeep which were left during the liberation war period, and
after 1955 it mainly refers to GAZ-69 series models which
were imported from the Soviet Union. On January of 1961,
Chinese National Defense Science and Technology Commission
approved the proposal to determine using 210 to name our
jeep production model.
In
the subsequent two years, Beijing automobile factory
organized competent technologist to fully develop Chinese
first generation trial Production of light off-road
jeep.
To April 1963, more than 300 Preparation BJ210 light
off-road jeep were Made out, and got good acclaim after use
and test by army. In 1964, BJ 210 gained first prize on the
National New Product Exhibition.
Only after six months, two new models, BJ211 and BJ212, were
born.
From 1965, BJ212 series of off-road jeep formally
established, which were divided into two models BJ212 and
BJ212A. And BJ212 has 5 seats.
Since then, China has created a new situation in our own
vehicle production. Beijing 212 mounted the stage of
history. And Beijing 212 became very pop in China, traveling
in cities, villages, roads, mines, and became a symbol of
that era.
From
the "Cultural Revolution", stereotyping BJ212 began to
produce in large quantity. After August 1966, Mao Zedong
interviewed ¡°Red Guards¡± many times in Beijing. In which Of
November 10, 1966 the 7th and November 26 the 8th,
Chairman Mao ride by BJ212 along the eastern and western
Chang An Avenue and the west of the airport runway to
"review" more than 100 million "Red Guards" pooled on the
roadside.
Using
Bj212 to extensively equip People's Liberation Army troops,
they are mainly for the commander's cars, and also using as
some carrying weapons platform and for other purposes.
Apart from Beijing automobile factory produced large number
BJ212 jeeps, from late 1970s to the early 1990s, there were
thousands of automobile plants in producing the various cars
modified from the original BJ212. They used BJ212 chassis
with knock-hand car shell and got variety of brands, then
were ridden on the national highway anywhere. Yield little,
backward technology, the high cost are the Chronic Illness
of Chinese automobile industry. But from another aspect,
this phenomenon also showed that Jeeps had simple structure
and easy to make.
